Built by Perenco, on the Batanga site located 70 km from Port-Gentil, the future butane gas production factory, whose investment is estimated at 36 billion FCFA, will be functional in 2023. This project will not only allow the country to be classified among the producers and exporters of butane, but also reduce the price of the bottle, avoid shortage of the product on the local market and increase government revenues.
Vincent de Paul Massassa, Gabon’s Minister of Petroleum and Gas, visited the site to check on the progress of these works. “We notice that the work is substantially advanced. The equipment ordered should be here soon and, as announced by the operator, the factory will be operational in the second half of 2023 with an estimated production of 15,000 tons of butane gas from the beginning of the project, ” he said.
Considering that 80% of butane gas is imported and that the local demand is about 35,000 tons per year, this initiative of the Head of State, His Excellency Ali BONGO ONDIMBA, whose objective is to make the gas bottle available on the Gabonese market, he was congratulated by the Minister in charge of oil. Perenco argues that the factory will produce up to 45,000 tons and export 10 tons in 2026.
