The suspense is over in Senegal, as Macky Sall officially announced on 3 July that he will not be a candidate in the presidential election to be held in February 2024.
After more than ten years as head of state, the Senegalese President has decided not to seek a third term. This decision was taken after a deep reflection, at a time when the climate in the country is very deleterious. “My dear compatriots, my long and carefully reflected decision is not to be a candidate in the next election on 25 February 2024”, said Macky SALL, during his address to the nation broadcast on RTS.
Macky SALL was elected President of the Republic of Senegal for the first time in 2012, and re-elected in 2019. Before governing the country, the politician held several posts, including Minister of State, Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities, Government Spokesman, Prime Minister and then President of the National Assembly.
