Gabon has just been ranked the first in Africa for the promotion of women’s rights, according to the 2023 edition of the World Bank’s “Women, Business and Law” report. A position that confirms the efforts of the highest authorities of the country, led by President Ali BONGO ONDIMBA, who since 2015 has established the Decade of Gabonese Women, for gender equality.
Considered as the foundation of society, women have always faced problems of gender discrimination. This is why, for almost ten years, structural initiatives developed by the Head of State have led Gabon towards equal pay for equal work and the removal of all restrictions on women’s employment.
The World Bank therefore congratulates Gabon, which for the first time in 53 years scored above 90 in the “Women, Business and Law” index. The country can therefore claim to be a “model of gender equality and women’s rights in Africa”.
