To encourage the artistic talent and creativity of the students is the aim of the International School of Gabon “Ruban Vert”, which organises a photography competition each year. Launched under the theme “Connection”, it was yesterday, 25 April, during the traditional photo exhibition that the winners of the 2023 edition were announced. Members of the school management, through the Principal, Martha ESSINKI, gave several prizes to the students who presented extraordinary pictures.
With the slogan “the school at the service of art”, the Ruban Vert in association with the ENS B school held a very interesting and colourful photo exhibition. This event was all about the images taken by students from the above-mentioned schools for the “Ruban Vert” photography competition. Furthermore, participants from the ENS B school had the privilege to receive a one-month exceptional photography coaching by EBEN Studios staff, from the famous photographer Eric BENQUET. These training sessions allowed them to discover and learn about the activities related to the work of a photographer and to acquire the basics that will allow them to do what they like. And those from the International School were assisted by their art teacher and a professional photographer.
“Each year, we have opportunities for students to take photos around the school. The aim is to be able to appreciate the environment, to connect and capture images that express certain kinds of things. And this year, we chose connection as the theme because we are in partnership with another school called ENS B. We thought it could be a very good opportunity for students in our school to work together with those of another school, to be able to share ideas and also to see things in other perspectives”, says Mr. Lawrence OPIYO, Art lecturer.
Thirty of the thirty-two images selected after the first deliberation were produced individually and the other two in pairs by students from Ruban Vert and
ENS B”, says an official communication. Among these, more than five photos were selected by an exceptional jury. The winners received several prizes, including a professional camera, a light ring and a 30,000 FCFA gift voucher. “I like photography, because I think it inspires and it motivates people. It allows you to show who you really are”, says one of the exhibitors.”
