Between 2001 and 2021, approximately 31,000 terrorist attacks were registered in 76 countries. This is why, finding solutions to the problem of international peace and security is the goal that Gabon has set for the period of its UN Security Council presidency during this month of October.
The rotating monthly presidency of #UNSC has moved from @franceonu (Sept) to @MPNY_GabonOnu (Oct). Gabon is a non-permanent member of the Council whose term runs from 1 Jan 2022-31 Dec 2023.

During this period, Gabon will work to reform the UN so that Africa’s aspirations can be taken into account. “We measure our responsibility and will do everything in our power to ease tensions, resolve conflicts and reduce divides, whether economic, social or environmental”, said Ali BONGO ONDIMBA. Moreover, during the general debate of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on September 22, he specified that, “this is especially important for the Security Council, where Africa’s role must be consolidated. Africa has been patient, and we think it is time.”
Gabon, which “has never experienced armed conflict, will continue to advocate and favour dialogue and negotiation over confrontation”, said President Ali BONGO ONDIMBA. In this context, he “reiterates the solemn appeal” of his country to all members of the international community to respect their common commitments to “ensure peace, security and dignity of the peoples around the world”.
