In his speech at the summit, the Senegalese Head of State and current President of the African Union, Macky SALL, expressed the need for Africa to have better access to the cereal and fertiliser market. To implement such a project, investment funds must be provided to African countries to develop agriculture, irrigation, energy and road infrastructure.
The Senegalese leader therefore believes that the United Nations and Africa must work together to put in place strategies that will enable the continent to achieve food self-sufficiency. ” We came to build a new beginning with the United States on issues related to food security for Africa, following the pandemic and war in Ukraine. We saw how vulnerable Africa was. Today, our challenge is to have access to the cereal and fertiliser market. I am sure that the United States will be able to help with this market access. Beyond access to fertilisers, we need to build a new, resilient African agriculture, based on the mastery of irrigation technology and investments,” Macky SALL said.
Through this event, Joe Biden intends to put Africa, which has been left out for a long time, at the heart of world diplomacy.
